The current outside temperature is 53 degrees. The degree to which I love my commute now fluctuates, depending upon whether I feel the onset of a frostbitten nose or the slow and excruciating necrosis of my phalanges. In other words, the weather is kicking my ass.

I get the next two days off from school for Rosh Hashanah. This is quite a change for me as I’m used to celebrating Cesar Chavez, Cinco de Mayo, 50 Cent’s album releases and every now and then, a school lock-down.

We had Back-2-School night tonight. This was definitely a first where more than half of my student’s parents actually showed up. I have to say that I’d rather have over-bearing parents who care too much about their kids than parents who are non-existent and don’t give a crap about their kids (aka majority of the parents of my students back in Lawndale).

Just taking a break from prepping for tomorrow’s “Back-2-School Night”. Well, we’re on Week 4 of school and all I can say is, I freaking love where I’m working, my 5th grade team of teachers and my students. At this rate, the move out of NYC may be extended…..indefinitely (jk).

It’s not even October yet and I’m freezing my ass off.
I have been going into work wearing long-sleeve shirts and on occasion, turtlenecks. Some of my colleagues give me puzzling looks while others just ask, “Aren’t you hot?”

As much as I love my profession, the beginning of the school year is always a pain in the a$$. I love being a teacher because I love teaching but nowadays, it feels as if I’m spending most of my time and energy on paperwork, legal IEP documents and the politics of work.
